Alberta business leaders threaten to stop donating to children hospitals

Alberta business leaders threaten to stop donating to children hospitals

This is from a few days ago - but I wouldn’t be surprised if it contributed to the NDP victory:

“If there’s no bottom line, then there’s no money that goes to charities. We won’t make donations to charities,” Mawji said, using the Stollery Children’s Hospital and the University of Alberta as examples of where the losses will be felt.

Corporate business leaders warn of risks to Alberta NDP...

What would you tell your childhood self? (TW abuse)

What would you tell your childhood self? (TW abuse)

Something came up in therapy yesterday that left me kind of speechless. We got talking and at one point my therapist asked me what I would tell my childhood self to help get through the sexual and emotional abuse. And after a few minutes of thinking.. I said “nothing”.

There is nothing I could give my childhood self that would make things better. When asked to describe what I myself like as a...

OMG YOU GUYS I'm so excited!

OMG YOU GUYS I'm so excited!

So, my partner and I are going on a road trip through the Canadian rockies at the end of August (culminating in PAX Prime in Seattle!). And we booked, what I think is going to be the single greatest experience on this trip. We’re going hiking on a glacier in Jasper National Park!! It’s going to be a 6 hour hike across the glacier!

AHHHHHH!

In Which I Talk about Male Bisexuality

In Which I Talk about Male Bisexuality

I was invited on to a podcast to talk about an issue that’s dear to my heart - male bisexuality. I’m still coming to grips with actually talking out loud about it, so I apologize if I seem a little nervous.

I also bring up erasure, and toxic masculinity!

Glowing Red lyrium Skull (TW: Gore)

Glowing Red lyrium Skull (TW: Gore)

Look what we made! It’s a skull with glowing shards of red lyrium (from Dragon Age) growing out of it! It’s kinda gruesome, so here is a kitten spacer..

And the crystals in the eye sockets pulse!

My partner did all the painting, casting the crystals, and applying the crystals, and I did the wiring and lighting (including the pulsing effect).

Sometimes arguing on Kotaku is worth it

Sometimes arguing on Kotaku is worth it

I sometimes ask myself why I argue for inclusion (women, LGBT, people who aren’t white, etc) on Kotaku (in this case, it’s a trans character in the new Baldur’s Gate expansion that is getting the game dragged through the mud).. but I do because occasionally this happens:

For the record.. this is where they started arguing:

For those of us who find fathers day difficult..

It’s been a tough week for me - and I don’t think it’s going to get much better until after Sunday. Have something fluffy for a spacer!

All the emails in my inbox talking about Father’s Day (Buy the perfect gift for Dad!), and the buzz on the internet have been leaving me in a state of general unease. I know I have an obvious reason for being a bit uncomfortable during this time of year - but...

A Canadian City Once Eliminated Poverty And Nearly Everyone Forgot

A Canadian City Once Eliminated Poverty And Nearly Everyone Forgot

A town in my province, in the 70s, decided to run a pilot program to give people under the poverty line a living wage. Not welfare or food stamps, just flat out give them money to bring their income up over the poverty line.

Coverage of Clarke and Lexa from The 100

Coverage of Clarke and Lexa from The 100

Spoilers for The 100 below.

I don’t watch the show anymore - but following any kind of queer media means that the bombshell that Lexa was killed off is EVERYWHERE. And while I understand the outrage in killing off a lesbian character (because the actor is going to a different show on a competing network), I’ve been uncomfortable with how the phrasing of coverage has been. The vast majority of...

Biphobia and the Pulse Massacre

Biphobia and the Pulse Massacre

...

That’s where the guilt enters in. The deep, deep isolating guilt that comes from internalized bi-phobia.

Am I allowed to feel this devastated, this full of rage?

Am I gay enough to be this upset?

Am I appropriating the grief of real gay people?

It hurts. On top of the pain and grief of loss, on top of the “that could’ve been me, that could’ve been my friends”, on top of the psychological...

I made a thing.

I made a thing.

Bask in the cuteness that is... BATTLE NUG! Being a small rodent/pig/thing from Dragon Age is risky business - so I thought I'd give our plush nug some armor! Now it's safe from roaming bands of adventurers!

(I made the chainmail, not the nug)
