I Made The Mistake Of Driving Two Of My Dream Cars

I Made The Mistake Of Driving Two Of My Dream Cars

The problem with the second one was that it might be cursed. The problem with the first one was that it might be perfect. I finally got to drive two 1990s Toyota Crestas, dream cars of mine never originally sold in the United States, in the hopes that they’d disappoint me and I’d stop wanting to buy one. I didn’t luck out.

A couple of months back, I went down with a bunch of my coworkers to...

It's Time To Rev That Engine

It's Time To Rev That Engine

Wow, here we are. You, there. Me, here. Me, the one in the car. You, the one out of the car. You’re looking at the car. I’m looking at you looking at the car. You’re seeing, and I am seeing. Together we are With Car, intertwined across a visual spectrum. Twelve cylinders, flat as a pancake. They are behind me. Red is around me. You do not see them. I feel them. You and I are linked, in sight....

Hats Off To This Horrible Datsun

Hats Off To This Horrible Datsun

You’re a 1972 Datsun 240Z . You don’t have all your paint. You don’t have an un-cracked piece of your interior. But you run, day in day out, and you’re a champion in my book.

Please enjoy this horrible, wonderful Z, the kind of car we will all miss in a few years or decades when the last of these cars are either rusted away or crashed.

What Happened To All The Datsun 240Zs Nissan Restored In...

Here's All The Modern Tech Hiding In A 800 HP 1989 Sauber-Mercedes Le Mans Car

Here's All The Modern Tech Hiding In A 800 HP 1989 Sauber-Mercedes Le Mans Car

The Mercedes-powered Sauber C9 is a legend in endurance racing, taking the 1989 24 Hours of Le Mans overall win and sounding like the Earth being torn apart by two wolverines. These Group C cars still run vintage events today, but they don’t do it exclusively on 1989 tech.

High Performance Academy turned out this interview with a team operating and maintaining one of the ‘89 chassis, running...

Set Your Doom Cult Calendars Now: Pagani Claims V12 Will Last Till 2026

Set Your Doom Cult Calendars Now: Pagani Claims V12 Will Last Till 2026

Will there be a world after V12 Paganis ? Your doom cult based around this premise now has a hard date to work with.

The news comes to us from Autocar, which interviewed the Argentine himself in a typically fuzzy CEO interview. Horacio Pagani, among other things, said that he’d be open to do an SUV if it was of the “highest quality,” whatever that means, and he said that he is working on an...

Here Are Some Of The Most Terrible Cars Ever To Win An F1 Race

Here Are Some Of The Most Terrible Cars Ever To Win An F1 Race
Your browser does not support HTML5 video tag.Click here to view original GIF

If F1 is the pinnacle of racing, then surely the car that wins an F1 race must be the pinnacle of racing cars, right? Well, neither side of that equation is all that true, and every so often a genuinely bad F1 car sneaks to the top of the podium.

This little video put together by Autosport of The 10 Worst F1 Cars To...

Yes But How Does The Archetypal Drift Car Handle The Nürburgring

Yes But How Does The Archetypal Drift Car Handle The Nürburgring

It’s abundantly clear that any yahoo can turn an S13 Nissan 200SX into a drift car. But what’s it like turning one into a “Ring tool,” as they say around the Nürburgring? What’s it like lapping one on the Nordschleife? Well, it looks, uh, maybe as sideways as you’d expect.

This is a fun little thought experiment made real. S13s the world over are used as track cars, just the kind of...

Jim Dunne, The Godfather Of Car Spy Photography, Dies At 87

Jim Dunne, The Godfather Of Car Spy Photography, Dies At 87

These days it’s not at all uncommon to open up a car magazine or visit a car website and find a photo of some half-covered prototype long before a car company wanted you to see the thing. For that, you can thank Jim Dunne, the guy who might as well have invented the business of spy photography in the automotive world. He died yesterday at 87, according to news reports.

Leo James Dunne died of...

It's Yellow

It's Yellow

Hello. Today I would like to announce that it (a 2002 Lexus IS300 SportCross) is yellow . That is the color that it is, at this moment, as in all moments before it, dating back to the build date of it (the 2002 Lexus IS300 SportCross in question).

Is it news that this car, this wagon, this 2JZ-powered, rear-wheel-drive, Lexus wagon with an asking price of $6,800, is yellow? It is, in that it...

A Video Reminder That NASCAR Drivers Are Good As Hell

Giant ovals seem to have a way of robbing our eyes of any sensation of just how fast Cup cars are going, and it’s easy to forget just how good NASCAR drivers are at, well, driving. Here is a good bit of a throwback to fix your mind.

This clip turned up today on my Twitter thanks to the wonderful Axis of Oversteer, who...

Driving In Manhattan Is Getting Actively Worse

Driving In Manhattan Is Getting Actively Worse

Anyone who drives in Manhattan knows that it’s trash, but even I was surprised by new data published by the NYC Department of Transportation that average speeds were down to all of 7 mph.

The NYC DOT’s 2018 mobility report came out today with the findings, in this case specifically referring to driving below 60th street with the 7 mph figure. You can read the report in full here for more.

(The...

This Bubble Era Supercharged Convertible Is Everything Subarus Aren't

The most iconic Subarus are turbocharged rally monsters or low-key all-wheel-drive wagons. The Subaru Vivio GX-T , complete with a three-part convertible Multi-Top, is none of those things, and all the more wonderful because of it.

(Full Disclosure: Our friends at Duncan Imports invited us to their shop in Virginia for a week to drive some of their finest wares. They’re extremely good folks...

Here's What $400 Of Mazda RX-7 Gets You

Here's What $400 Of Mazda RX-7 Gets You

If you, like me, often dream of buying one of the car world’s masterpieces, the first-gen Mazda RX-7 , this will be of some interest to you. It’s how much RX-7 you get for $400. After some review, it appears to be, uh, not a ton.

This is a Southern Californian $400, so that means it won’t be buying you rust. But it won’t be getting you a lot else, either.

This 1983 GSL model one (not...

The Ultimate Drift Corolla Is Still One Of The Best Rally Cars Around

It’s 8/6 day in the rest of the world, and I’m sure you (like me) are spending most of it watching old drift videos. But the most iconic drift car of a generation is still one of the best old rally cars you can run.

I watched the other weekend as friend of Jalopnik (and rally extraordinaire ) Chris Duplessis racked up...

Here we see what is both speed and metal together with humans, cast aloft in celebration of speed and metal together with humans. Of difficulty. In difficulty, we have the speed. Transformational speed, in that it transforms a car into a car soaring through the air, that air being the air that exists above the ground,...

The World Deserves Another Renault Clio V6

The World Deserves Another Renault Clio V6

What’s funny about the Renault Clio V6, even this later version with a higher-spec engine, is that it only makes 255 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque (as noted by EVO at the time, from a 3.0-liter mounted where the back seats ought to be.

It gives me a sinking feeling that this would be remarkably easy to do today.

That mid-2000s era V6 power figure is something easily achieved by turbo...
