Craigslist Exodus?

Craigslist Exodus?

As we well know, Craigslist has instituted a $5.00 per ad fee on automotive listings since April 15.

My local (Missoula, Montana) has seen a decrease in privately listed ads from over 850 to less than 300 in the last two weeks. Has anyone else been experiencing a Craigslist-pocalypse?

42 Minutes of Overland Meditation

42 Minutes of Overland Meditation

Do you have 3/4 of an hour for your lunch break?

Of course you do.

Hit play on this strangely slow, but deeply mesmerizing YouTube video and dive into an overland world that likely may never exist again.

There’s a lot of Ken Burns tilt, and the narrative will draw you in inevitably. When I am searching for inspiration, I often fire up this video and let it carry me away.

Robot Cars and the "Trolley Problem" - A Rant

Robot Cars and the "Trolley Problem" - A Rant

The trolley problem is one of the most flawed ethical thought experiments imaginable, and I’m sick and tired of seeing it trotted out as some kind of gold standard for understanding morality and moral decision-making, human or otherwise.

(I originally posted this as a comment to Torch’s FP article yesterday about the big autonomous car study , but it got really long, so I decided to make it...

Oh crap, we bought a thing

Oh crap, we bought a thing

As always, the best and newest news arrives first for my friends at O&E.

Have I installed this correctly?

Back to that RTT life, yo.

Pajero Project: Seed Nets!

Pajero Project: Seed Nets!

“What’s that burning smell?”

“We should probably check it out.”

Our trip north into the heart of Botswana’s wet season was an amazing adventure across the vast savannas and pans that dominate that corner of the country. We were surprised at how tall and lush the grasslands were at Makgadikgadi Pans. It grew in waist-high waves even in the middle of the sandy two-tracks.

Basically acting as a...

Dr. DeMuro. Paging Dr. DeMuro.

This Delta Integrale is ripe and ready for the picking.

You know you want it.

We all do.

Ok, this is a "sub-suggestion." I think you should by a car from Europe that meets the 25 …

News and Notes from Southern Africa, Vol. VI: USA! USA! Edition

Howdy, kids. It’s been quite a while since I rapped atchya’. So, what’s been happening over in Botswana since, uh... checks notes... March? Well, quite a lot, I’ll tell you.

But, I’m not going to take the lazy path and post a bunch of links to our blog to catch you up on our adventures.

Actually, I am going to do that:

From Khutse to the Kalahari, in Seven Conversations

Day 1 – Khutse Gate to...

Torch is in The Bug Movie!

Torch is in The Bug Movie!

Coming out later this year, produced by some really cool dudes from my town - it's a follow-up to their Bus Movie.

Our very own Jason Torchinsky features prominently - I got to see an extended preview at a local venue this week and it looks awesome! Keep an eye out for your local film festivals.

Porsche 924 on Bob's Burgers?

Porsche 924 on Bob's Burgers?

So I blasted through a Bob’s Burgers binge on Netflix recently, and snapped this screen shot from an episode in Season 4. (I don’t remember which episode, as it was very late, and I was tired, and [possibly?] a little drunk.)

Someone please agree with me that this is a yellow Porsche 924 parked behind Teddy.

Girls and Cars... Not What You Think

Girls and Cars... Not What You Think

Earlier last week the Washington Post had an OpEd by Patrice Banks, an engineer who was fed up with getting the runaround by meathead oil-change places and mechanics, so she went back to school herself to become a technician.

She founded a “girls only” garage, and has been teaching women in the Philadelphia area how to live with and work on their cars.

One statistic in the article that caught...

Great Scott!

Great Scott!

Ok, to be honest, I was kinda over all the BTTF crap that’s been dominating the cultural news cycle in the last few days (especially since my Cubbies suuuuuck).

Until I pulled into work this morning and saw Doc Brown in the parking lot with a DMC.

Then I was squealing like a little girl.

Props to this random guy for bringing a little BTTF cheer to the folks in the office.

Been Doin' this RTT Thing for a While Now

Been Doin' this RTT Thing for a While Now

Found this little gem on ebay trolling for roof-top tents. I can’t really identify the car, though (which is very weird for me). Is it some kind of Citroen? Usually Citroens have the prominent chevrons on the front. Hmm.

Indeed.

"I Am Here To Tell You That Fast Is Better"

"I Am Here To Tell You That Fast Is Better"

As I’m sure everyone has seen, Mr. Regular has a motorcycle review this week, and references a Hunter S. Thompson essay in the very beginning.

I’m a big fan of the Ol’ Duke, but I don’t recall ever reading this particular slice of literary goodness from “Song of the Sausage Creature”:

“Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that...

All the Men Just Call Him "Sir"

All the Men Just Call Him "Sir"

Whenever the weather starts getting juuuuust a little bit warm in Montana, people break out the real iron from its winter slumber.

This is what I’m talking about. Eldorado Biarritz. Half-landau. Mint. 17 feet of ‘Murica. I had to back up nearly across the entire parking lot just to fit it all into the frame. The hub caps are color-matched!

Check out that tufted leather! How can it be this...
