Project Blue Carolina: Bonus!

Project Blue Carolina: Bonus!

As I said in my last update, photos and progress has come to a mear trickle, but I finally stumbled across a photo of the left side to show where the door was cut:

So I went about figuring out how to cut it while keeping the gap tight. I could use a dremel with a cutting wheel, but it was just too thick, about .025in. Which would have left a big gap, and thats if it cut “dead on balls...

Project Carolina Blue: Some reassembly required? (With pics)

Project Carolina Blue: Some reassembly required? (With pics)

So in just four short hours, a practically brand new model was in pieces, and as far as I can tell, there’s no turning back now. Tear downs are always the easiest, but I have to admit with some de-bonder and patience, it just about came apart flawless, save for a headlight cover that got contaminated.

So far, the majority of tools have come from Harbor Freight, and suprisingly work very well...

Haulin' Hot Wheels

Haulin' Hot Wheels

Before Hot Wheels lost their way, there was a time when they built both outrageous cars, and pretty life like trucks that you could run outside, and dig one minature scoop at a time. I can honestly say I easily went through a few dozen of these things, and after rummaging through a box I got from my parents attic, I’m quite suprised at the shape these are in

And yet, some I may have played...

Follow me as I begin my first little big build Project: Carolina Blue

Follow me as I begin my first little big build Project: Carolina Blue

Since the mid 2000's, GT40's have come back into the lime light of automotive history with a fury. From production cars mimicking them, to diecast collectibles, we can’t armchair race these days without hearing those two letters and numbers.

I’m as much a GT40-o-phile as anybody else, and seeing the plethora of models for sale in many liveries makes me want to collect them all. Yet, I see a...

What's in the Box!?

What's in the Box!?

Good things come to those who wait, in my case, it was 10 years, and three months, but who’s counting.

A big thank you to eBay user cbxpress for not only putting this up for auction, but being super informative as far as the status on shipping.

Almost.....

I see a bit of red....

And there it is, a 1998 TS020, in the better of the two liveries. Of course this was when Autoart cared about detail...

Project Carolina Blue: Back at it

Project Carolina Blue: Back at it

Firstly, Happy New Year to everybody. 2018 is behind us, and now to look forward to more progress in life and on this uphill battle that is this custom build. I’ve happily received some photos and info regarding specific parts of this car, but we will continue on the external modifications for now. Everytime I examine photos and measurements, it becomes more and more clear this car isn’t just...

Porsche celebrating their 70th anniversary this year, and what a better fitting way then painting one of their RSR in Pink Pig livery? why the original 917/20 is a start. You can find all the info for this car online, but in short SERA, a French aeronautical company was tasked by Porsche to make a 917's aerodynamics as efficient as a 917LH, while retaining a body length of a 917K.

What's in the Box Deux

What's in the Box Deux

Took me 10 years to get one for a decent price.

It does have a few imperfections, but I’m not worried

And it goes with my 1:43 version. I have two, and both were signed by the late, great John Fitch

Honest Review: Shelby Collectibles GT40 MkII (a.k.a Carolina Blue's donor car)

Honest Review: Shelby Collectibles GT40 MkII (a.k.a Carolina Blue's donor car)

I am a GT40 snob, going back to the days of HotWheels releasing the MkI in their First Editions in 1999. I would buy all iterations, and then detail them from lights to grills, just because I felt they were lacking detail.

I now mainly collect 1:18 cars, and once again, their detail and price must be justifiable. So did SC do just that? Let’s take a look at the pros and cons

I actually own 4...

Project Blue Carolina: Blurring the Lines

Project Blue Carolina: Blurring the Lines

I’ve decided to start with both the front and rear end now, and made some progress this afternoon. I’ve decided to put the trunk and spare tire on hold until I receive better photos, or if I get a chance to go to the Revs Institute and see it in person. With all the unique changes compared to a normal MkII, I want to get as close as I can to the real thing.

So I started with the front bonnet...

LALEMANS: Panoz GTR-1

LALEMANS: Panoz GTR-1

Don Panoz was a genius, and a mad man, a man who started the phrase “hold my beer.” Since the 60's it was obviously known that a proper racecar’s engine was behind the driver, and for a clockwise track like Le Mans, sitting on the right was better. Don Panoz wanted it to still be set up to look like his standard Esperante (though they never share anything) , so he hooked up with Reynard to...

Project Blue Carolina: Face Off

Project Blue Carolina: Face Off

So lets jump right into it, and talk about the history of chassis P1031/1047, why two chassis numbers, and why the hell is this project called Carolina Blue?

On November 5, 1965, chassis P1031 was delivered to Shelby America to be fitted to MkII spec. All GT40 chassis except for the MKIV, (a.k.a. J-Cars) ever made, were built by F.A.V. in England ( with the company becoming JWAE in 1967.)...

Project Carolina Blue: cheat sheet from another car

Project Carolina Blue: cheat sheet from another car

It’s been too long LaLDers, and I thank you for still being even remotely interested in this build.

I will say I hit a bit of a modelers block, but not really my problem, more so I don’t have any more sufficiant photos and specs to move on, so I’ve contacted the Revs Institute, and hopefully I can get the necessary resources, or even take a trip down there and photograph it.

With that said,...

W.I.T.B. #3

W.I.T.B. #3

Another deal I couldn’t pass up.

Huzzzah! It’s ungodly detailed, so this will help me determine some specs of Project Carolina Blue, but this isn’t without it’s flaw, and boy is it a big one (and seems to be common, yet Exoto has said sit on it and spin

The right side suspension is broken, and although it came with the pieces, Im not sure it’ll be fixable without custom repairs (unless...

I'll get around to it

Sorry for no recent updates. Due to work, the U.S. Open, and some sad family affairs, this has been put on the back burner. I’m hoping in the coming weeks we can get back on this wagon. Stay tuned, I haven’t given up yet.

LALEMANS: Tickled Pink

LALEMANS: Tickled Pink

This year’s LMP was quite lack luster to say the least, but I had my fingers crossed for the RSR retro liveried cars to do well, and not only did they perform, but won the GTE Pro class! And to top it off, the “Pink Pig” livery took top honors, so lets celebrate with a few piggy goidies of mine, the 917/20

In 2020, Toyota would be smart to bring back the TS020, a.k.a the GT-One, I mean, come on, look at it!
