Real Physics Star Trek - Boldly Going As Fast As We Can

Real Physics Star Trek - Boldly Going As Fast As We Can

Based off some stupid Facebook arguments about whether Star Trek science is “real” or not, I’ve started a new webcomic series called Real Physics Star Trek, which explores what life aboard the Enterprise might look like if they had to obey the realistic limitations of physics and technology, without any magic space rocks to generate unlimited energy, warp the fabric of space/time, or convert...

Bona to Vada! It's the Doom Patrol 'Danny Patrol' reaction thread

Okay, Doom Patrol. You still have some major tone issues, and I want to slap that hideous teenstache off Cyborg every moment he’s on screen, but thanks for not screwing up the best LGBTQ character in comics.

Danny the Street is one of the most beloved creations to come out of Morrison’s run in the classic comic series, and arguably the first (or one of the first) openly transgender...

Power of the Daleks to be animated and released on DVD! [Update: Maybe not...] Update x2: HELL YES, IT IS!

Attention classic Doctor Who fans: The Mirror just confirmed announced that BBC Worldwide have commissioned an animated reconstruction of the very first 6-part Patrick Troughton story Power of the Daleks, for which no surviving episodes still exist! UPDATE: The Mirror article doesn’t provide any sources, and BBC Worldwide have yet to make an official comment to anyone who’s asked, so it’s...

Doc-Tor-Who Is Re-Quired to check out my Custom 3D Printed War Machine

Doc-Tor-Who Is Re-Quired to check out my Custom 3D Printed War Machine

It’s been a while since I posted anything from my 3D Printing Doctor Who project, but I’ve been working on this particular design for quite some time.

I promised the folks on Facebook I’d post a fancy video of me driving the War Machine around when it was complete, so here is the “technically correct” version of that video.

I say “technically correct” because the ThinkGeek...

Red Dwarf series XI - Set report #1

Red Dwarf series XI - Set report #1

Red Dwarf series XI filming began this past weekend, and the reports from fans have begun trickling in. As always, the production team urge audience members not to give away any spoilers, but we did get some brief set reports here and here, as well as a few teaser photos from the official #reddwarfXI Twitter Feed.

We don’t know much about the plot of what is presumably going to be the series...

Spoilers for the new season of MST3K (Updated)

Spoilers for the new season of MST3K (Updated)

UPDATED with official trailer.

5 of the 6 movies from the new season of MST3K premiering this Thanksgiving have been released to the British Board of Film Classifications to receive ratings for the UK Netflix release, which include the titles of the movies they’re going to be riffing on. There are some “interesting” choices this time around, which may or may not float your riffing...

There is no Macra

Put on your missing Doctor Who episode conspiracy hats...

Last week, the BFI announced that there will be a special screening of “a brand new animation of a missing Doctor Who episode” at their next ‘Missing Believed Wiped’ event in December.

Some people took the “a” in the blurb above to mean they’ve decided to animate episode 2 of Web of Fear or Mission to the Unknown, which are the...

Show off your really bad-ass Geek-o-Lantern thread

Show off your really bad-ass Geek-o-Lantern thread

Been a hell of a year for the Hinter household, but it’s not Halloween without the obligatory geek-o-Lantern.

I’m sort of running out of comic book series to immortalize in pumpkin form. This year it was Poyo from Chew. The last couple of years, I’ve done Squirrel Girl, Lying Cat, Arseface, Lobster Johnson, Death of Rats, and David Bowie.

Here’s the annual window display as well.

RiffTrax will live riff The Five Doctors on August 17th!

RiffTrax will live riff The Five Doctors on August 17th!

Hot damn! MST3K alumni Mike, Kevin, and Bill were being super secretive about the final film in their latest round of RiffTrax LIVE! events, and now we know why. They’ve teamed up with the BBC to live riff the 1983 Doctor Who 20th Anniversary special The Five Doctors!

The two Peter Cushing Dalek movies were spectacular, and I can’t really think of a better classic episode of Doctor...

Captain America Civil War - 1950's style

Captain America Civil War - 1950's style

I approve of the casting choices, but Ed Wood as producer? No way. If anyone was going to kick off the Marvel movie franchise in the 1950's it has to be Roger Corman. Can you imagine Roger Corman and a young Stan Lee working together? It would have been glori... oh wait.

The Seven Wonders Of The Universe that were cut from Doctor Who

The Seven Wonders Of The Universe that were cut from Doctor Who

It's been up on Jamie Mathieson's blog for a month now, but I thought I'd share it anyways. In early drafts for Mummy on the Orient Express, the opulent space train was supposed to be making a round trip of the Seven Wonders of the Universe*, stopping off at various scenic locations while the passengers and crew gradually got offed one by one by the shambling Foretold mummy. Due to time...

A-Team, Gremlins, E.T., Sonic & Goonies join latest Lego Dimensions expansions

A-Team, Gremlins, E.T., Sonic & Goonies join latest Lego Dimensions expansions

I halfway figured Harry Potter and Star Wars would be a shoe-in for the next Lego Dimensions expansion, but dayum... I was not expecting roughly 90% of this new E3 trailer.

All I can say is they damn well better get Mr. T into a VO booth to record interactions with every other Lego character and vehicle (especially the TARDIS), because from now on, his figure is never leaving my toy...

Spy week addendum- Danger 5 now up on Netflix

Spy week addendum- Danger 5 now up on Netflix

Finally. There are no more excuses for not having seen Danger 5 in the United States (well, other than not having Netflix.) The first season has been available on Hulu and the Canadian version of Netflix for a while now, but snuck onto the American version last week.

If you aren't familiar with the series, it's a surreal Australian send-up of 1960's spy capers (with a dash of Thunderbirds...

Somebody invented a prosthetic limb compatible with LEGO

Somebody invented a prosthetic limb compatible with LEGO

This is seriously one of the most beautiful and brilliant creations I’ve ever seen. Losing a limb is traumatic enough, but the stigma of wearing a prosthesis can be quite harsh, especially for younger children. Enter the IKO, a hot-swappable prosthetics system that lets the user exchange a boring old rechargeable 4-fingered hand with one they build themselves using the Lego MindStorm system....

Wes Craven to adapt 2 new series for SyFy

Wes Craven to adapt 2 new series for SyFy

Is it possible to pump your fist and bite your nails at the same time? Wes Craven has just announced that he will be developing two new TV series for SyFy as part of a plan to introduce more horror into their lineup, starting with an adaptation of Daryl Gregory’s 2014 Nebula Award nominated We Are All Completely Fine , for which he will be both writing and directing the pilot, followed by a...

We almost had Brian Blessed in Series 9 of Doctor Who

We almost had Brian Blessed in Series 9 of Doctor Who

Bollocks! Bollocks! Bollocks! While I’m terribly disappointed about the news, the fact that he had to pull out doesn’t come as a huge surprise. We all wish the mighty shouty one and his magnificent beard a speedy recovery, and hopefully we can look forward to hearing his booming voice and kingly laughter echoing across the land once more, without having to go to the trouble of reprogramming...
