Streaming for Nobody

Streaming for Nobody

Viewer Count: Nil

Due to varying free time, I spend about as much time playing solo as I do playing with friends. The current constant, however, is that I stream my exploits to a viewer count of zero. Why, then, do I even waste my time firing up Mixer?

Gaming as a Social Exercise

Growing up, I had an older cousin who brought me into the world of gaming in the way that older cousins do— by handing...

What Incredibles 2 does Better than Other Super Hero Movies

What Incredibles 2 does Better than Other Super Hero Movies

I finally got around to seeing Incredibles 2 and while I really enjoyed the movie, I have not quite had enough time to digest it and rank it in my mental film bank. The plot was fine, the characters were awesome again, but the ending fell pretty flat. Obviously there are spoilers ahead, so tread with caution if you still haven’t seen Disney’s latest animated hero romp.

Warning: Spoilers...

Another Take on Sony's Crossplay Saga

Another Take on Sony's Crossplay Saga

Restricting crossplay

By now it is common knowledge that the ability for cross-console play in some of your favorite games is being limited by a single entity, yes Sony we’re looking at you. Crossplay is being limited in current games such as Fortnite and Rocket League, but we now have our first huge launch in Fallout 76 that will, due to Sony’s misguided stance on the subject, forego...

My Wife Can't Understand Why I Yell at Video Games

My Wife Can't Understand Why I Yell at Video Games

It’s midnight and there she is, asleep on the couch. Sleeping peacefully only 6 feet away. Sleeping, knowing that I am playing Sea of Thieves; dreaming, knowing damn well that I can’t control my volume when I play.

Setting the scene

Here I go, “alright! We’re here! Now, all five of us need to play the drum simultaneously! OH MY GOD, HERE HE COMES!”

Now we’ve woken the fabled Megalodon and I’m...

2K Sports in Perfect Position to Rejoin Football, Assuming Partnership with XFL

2K Sports in Perfect Position to Rejoin Football, Assuming Partnership with XFL

It’s been 14 years since EA obtained exclusive rights with the NFL and nearly 11 years since the team at 2k Sports last gave gamers the opportunity to slap on their digital helmets and shoulder pads. Now, with the NFL seeing its viewership and popularity decline, the XFL seeks to succeed where it originally failed, giving not only fans of the real game a fresher alternative, but those who are...

Extreme Take: Fallout 76 is not for Anyone

Extreme Take: Fallout 76 is not for Anyone

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Bethesda Game Studios director and executive producer Todd Howard stated that the always online, multiplayer only, microtransaction enabled Fallout 76 does not “mark the future” of Bethesda. He is correct, if only because Fallout 76 does not, on its own, display Bethesda leaning heavily away from its single-player driven past—its catalog of recent...

Big Time Lessons from a Small Time Tournament

Big Time Lessons from a Small Time Tournament

Yesterday, my local Microsoft Store held a 2v2 Halo 5 tournament in which my best friend and I competed. To say the very least, it was not what I expected.

Going in blind

I knew from the time I heard about the tournament, my biggest weakness was that I had played less than 2 hours of the headlining game prior to entering the tournament. I’m a huge Microsoft fan, but after playing the original...

The Influence of Gaming on Our Hobbies

The Influence of Gaming on Our Hobbies

While gaming continues to add channels for those lucky or skilled enough to become a professional, through streaming, journalism, or competitive gaming for example, the unfortunate reality for the majority of us is that it will simply always be a pastime. However, that does not deter from the fact that gaming has a substantial impact on our lives. In fact, I aim to explore the impact that...

RIP Single-player?

RIP Single-player?

Take-Two’s CEO recently stated, “single-player is not dead, in my opinion, not even close.” Why then, has there not been a drop of post-release content in Grand Theft Auto 5 aimed at the single-player consumer?

That’s just one example of the industry’s heavy progression toward and all multiplayer future. Shared-world experiences such as Sea of Thieves and Fallout 76 are what those gamers who...
