PlayStation's Baseball Studio Is Releasing Games On Rival Systems

MLB The Show, a long-running exclusive to PlayStation systems that is developed by a Sony studio, will now be appearing on other consoles as part of the series’ new licensing deal with Major League Baseball.

While no specific mention is...

New PlayStation Commercial Rips Off Loads Of Artists

New PlayStation Commercial Rips Off Loads Of Artists

A big new commercial for PlayStation Japan, pitched as a music video featuring all the platform’s big holiday games, has a lot of cool animation throughout. Pity, then, that loads of it is copied—down to the smallest detail—from other people’s work.

Here’s the trailer in question:

Ian Jones-Quartey, creator of OK K.O.! (who has also worked on Steven Universe and Adventure Time)...

Our Best (And Worst) Memories Of The PlayStation, 25 Years Later

Our Best (And Worst) Memories Of The PlayStation, 25 Years Later

On this day 25 years ago, the Sony PlayStation released in Japan. A lot of us here at Kotaku have pretty fond memories of the PlayStation, from bartering for access with our siblings to sitting in dark, dusty basements, illuminated only by the light of an old TV and some sharp, sharp polygons. Take a walk down memory lane with us.

The original PlayStation hit Japanese shops on December 3,...

The Week In Games: Life Is Farming

The Week In Games: Life Is Farming

Happy week after Thanksgiving! Life is Strange 2: Episode 5 launches this week, and Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey comes to Xbox One and PS4. Red Dead Redemption 2 comes to Steam. And, of course, Farming Simulator 20 arrives on the Switch, which I will admit I kind of super want to play.

December 2

Trax (PS4)

Where The Water Tastes Like Wine (PS4)

SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions (PS4,...

Titanfall 2 and Monster Energy Supercross Are December's PS Plus Games

Titanfall 2 and Monster Energy Supercross Are December's PS Plus Games

If you haven’t played Titanfall 2 yet, I only played it recently, but that means I can now be appalled at you for not playing it. Lucky for us all, it’s one of December’s PlayStation Plus games.

Alongside Titanfall 2, PlayStation Plus members can get Monster Energy Supercross—The Official Videogame, which appears to be about bikes and energy drinks. As always, these games are only “free” if...

Dueling Translations Of Hideo Kojima's Thoughts On Critics Cause Confusion

Dueling Translations Of Hideo Kojima's Thoughts On Critics Cause Confusion

Whatever you think about Hideo Kojima’s latest fever dream—which imagines a world exactly like our own, except that Norman Reedus can’t walk good—you likely figured it was going to be divisive. Initial reviews lent credence to that idea; some critics adored Death Stranding despite its sharp corners and long, uneventful stretches. Others thought Kojima sacrificed fun in favor of nonsensical...

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: The Kotaku Review

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: The Kotaku Review

Across thousands of years of existence, we as a people have come to regard war as pretty bad. Senseless violence and the loss of irreplaceable lives, usually in the service of petty men who wield the power of nations indiscriminately, is just fucking stupid. Yet it still happens, and in America, the necessity of the military is upheld even as the invaluable lives in its service are...

MediEvil Looks Great But Has A Lousy Camera

MediEvil Looks Great But Has A Lousy Camera

When I think of classic PlayStation games, I think Crash and Spyro. If I think a bit harder I eventually remember MediEvil, a wacky, gothic-inspired action-adventure game released in 1998 for the original PlayStation. It didn’t set the world on fire, but it did get a sequel before the series mostly went dormant. Now, after other games from that era have had successful remakes, MediEvil...

The PS4 No Longer Connects To Facebook [Updated]

Starting today, the PlayStation 4 will no longer support Facebook integration. This means you can’t share your screenshots and trophies with your Facebook friends from your console, as well as a few other limitations that, though minor, are annoying.

As Sony points out in their article on the issue, “Facebook will no longer be offered as a destination to share screenshots, videos, music,...

Do Not Underestimate The Power Of The PlayStation Lunch Box

Do Not Underestimate The Power Of The PlayStation Lunch Box

In Japan, there is an official PlayStation 1 lunch box. It’s a crane game prize and comes in packaging that looks like the cardboard box for the first PlayStation. How cool is it?

Very cool!

While you might think here’s a difference in nuance between “lunch box” and “bento box,” the packaging reads ランチボックス (ranchi bokkusu or lunch box). It’s being widely referred to as a bentoubako (弁当箱) or...

Tiny PlayStation Toy Even Has The Internal Circuitry

Next year, Bandai will be releasing some 2:5 scale models of famous old consoles. They’re nice enough to be sitting on a shelf as is, but what’s really cool about these is that they replicate the machines both outside and in.

The models—and their controllers—pop open to reveal intricate little reproductions of the circuit boards and other internal components.

There’ll be a PlayStation and a...
