The Week In Games: Slide To The Left, Slide To The Ride

The Week In Games: Slide To The Left, Slide To The Ride

It’s time to power slide and shoot some robots. Vanquish is being released on PS4 and Xbox One this week, alongside Bayonetta. It is a good day for fans of action games.

I’ve been putting off playing Vanquish for too long. I need to just buy it and play it. I’ve gone too long in my life without sliding across the ground while shooting a dozen robots. Nobody should deny themselves that...

It Seems A Playable Xbox Build Of StarCraft Ghost Has Leaked

It Seems A Playable Xbox Build Of StarCraft Ghost Has Leaked

Here’s something I didn’t expect to see today: New gameplay footage of StarCraft Ghost. The third-person shooter had a rocky and well-known development history before being officially canceled by Blizzard, something confirmed back in 2014. Now an early Xbox build seems to have leaked out and popped up online.

Andrew Borman posted some screenshots on Twitter but quickly pointed out that he had...

'Shop Contest: Everything's Coming Up Robotnik

'Shop Contest: Everything's Coming Up Robotnik

Dr.Robotnik, or Eggman if you prefer the worse name, is the main villain of the Sonic games and the new movie. In the movie, he is played by Jim Carrey. Let’s take this version of the ol’ doctor and add him to other games!

Your challenge this week: Add Jim Carrey’s Robotnik to stuff.

Look, we all know how often Sonic appears in these contests. Too often, if you’re asking me. So let’s spread...

Someone Accurately Recreated Red Dead Online In Dreams

Someone Accurately Recreated Red Dead Online In Dreams

Red Dead Online is a game that has improved a lot since it first launched back in late 2018. But it still has some issues. One of the most annoying is how often players get kicked from the game, often randomly with no warning. Someone recreated that experience in Dreams.

Using Dreams, PlayStation user RikisCafe created this piece of art that, admittedly, only people who play Red Dead Online...

'Shop Contest: Valentine's Day Cards, Winners!

Last weekend, I wasn’t here but you all got the mission to create some gaming themed Valentine’s Day cards. Special thanks to Peter and Narelle for keeping the ‘Shop Contest train going while I was away.

Our winning image this week comes from Buchi Chu who created a cute and funny card, with some fantastic original artwork! Great job!

So, let’s talk about last weekend. I leave for one...

You Wanna Ride The Rollercoaster?

You Wanna Ride The Rollercoaster?

This week on Snapshots, too many creepy hands in Hellblade, getting slapped in Red Dead, cool-looking space ships in No Man’s Sky, breaking glass in Mirror’s Edge and dealing with a really big spider in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Yes, I’ve featured a lot of Star Wars photos in these first few Snapshots and I’ll continue to feature Star Wars screenshots because that game looks great. Also, I...

Mario Maker Contest: Water, Water Everywhere, Winners!

Mario Maker Contest: Water, Water Everywhere, Winners!

Last week I asked you all to create underwater or water-themed levels for Mario Maker 2. You could include big oceans, water-filled tunnels or small lakes. Whatever felt right to you.

I got some good stuff this week. Well, as good as a water level can be. Which in this case, at least for some levels, was pretty dang good!

Anyways! If you want to playall the courses people submitted for the...

The Weirdest Part Of The Sonic Movie Is A Giant Owl

The Weirdest Part Of The Sonic Movie Is A Giant Owl

There are some weird moments in the new Sonic The Hedgehog film, released this week. Like, a strange and totally forced Zillow ad during one early scene in the film. But the weirdest moment happens right at the start of the film and involves a new character not seen in the Sonic games.

If you haven’t seen the new Sonic film and don’t want to be spoiled by the opening minutes being revealed,...

PSA: If You’re Just Starting Dreams, Leave The Motion Controls On

PSA: If You’re Just Starting Dreams, Leave The Motion Controls On

I don’t know about you, but I’m no fan of motion controls. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I immediately deactivated the tilt. I would’ve turned off the motion controls in Detroit: Become Human, if doing so wouldn’t also minimize the narrative stakes. The worst Super Mario Party mini-games are those that require physical Joy-Con movement. No, thanks! Give me “Train in Pain!”

But the new PlayStation 4...

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

The weekend is for a three-day weekend, which should always be the length of weekends. I am going to do chores, and do nothing, and play some video games.

I started tinkering around with The Swindle on my Switch last night. It’s a stealth robbery game I played a lot of when it came to PC in 2015. I picked it up again for Switch in 2018 and played a little more, but last night I found myself up...

The Final Fantasy VII Remake Opening Is A Little Longer And A Lot Prettier

The Final Fantasy VII Remake Opening Is A Little Longer And A Lot Prettier

The opening movie for Final Fantasy VII starts with a field of stars, fades into Aeris, pulls back to reveal the city of Midgar, and then follows Cloud and Barret’s train to its destination. The Final Fantasy VII Remake opening does that too, only prettier and with a lot more Midgar.

As iconic as it is, the opening movie for the original FFVII wastes a whole lot of time with rumbling and...

Untitled Goose Game And Control Clean Up At The 2020 DICE Awards

Untitled Goose Game And Control Clean Up At The 2020 DICE Awards

A short but delightful game about a rambunctious waterfowl took home top honors at last night’s DICE Awards, joining games like Overwatch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Fallout 4 in the pantheon of Game of the Year award winners. Meanwhile, Remedy’s Control snagged four awards of its own.

Untitled Goose Game waddled away with three awards during last night’s annual Design,...

PlayStation Inspired 'Haunted Demo Disc' Is A Glorious Throwback to Old-School Horror Games

PlayStation Inspired 'Haunted Demo Disc' Is A Glorious Throwback to Old-School Horror Games

We live in an age where pretty much any game you want is right at your fingertips, so long as you have an internet connection. That wasn’t always the case. If you wanted to try out games in the 1990s and 2002s, you played a demo disc. The Haunted PS1 Demo Disc, which came out this week on itch.io, is a collection of 17 retro horror games that recaptures the sample-plate nature of days gone...

The New Razer Blade Stealth Is The Tiny Gaming Laptop I Always Wanted

The New Razer Blade Stealth Is The Tiny Gaming Laptop I Always Wanted

When Razerintroduced its 13-inch Stealth laptop in 2016 , I didn’t do a review. I was told it wasn’t a gaming machine, strictly a productivity device. The latest Razer Blade Stealth, outfitted with Nvidia’s Geforce GTX 1650 mobile graphics, can play PC games capably without taking up too much space. It’s exactly the tiny gaming system I’ve been looking for.

As much as I enjoy PC gaming on my...

Overwatch's YouTube Deal Makes A New Brigitte Skin Costly For Most Players

Overwatch's YouTube Deal Makes A New Brigitte Skin Costly For Most Players

Until February 19, Blizzard is offering Overwatch players a skin nobody asked for, but that is, admittedly, pretty funny: “Goat Brigitte,” a horned, blue-and-purple number meant to commemorate the notoriously unpopular “GOATS” meta that dominated OWL season two last year. There’s just one problem: It’s currently impossible to earn the in-game currency players need to unlock it.

The new skin,...

Here’s The Deal With The New Fire Emblem: Three Houses DLC

Here’s The Deal With The New Fire Emblem: Three Houses DLC

If there’s one thing Fire Emblem fans want, it’s more Fire Emblem. So when Nintendo announced that the fourth “wave” of Three Houses DLC would be a full-blown expansion, titled Cindered Shadows, we series devotees rightfully went nuts. But it wasn’t clear what exactly the DLC actually was.

Would Cindered Shadows be a self-contained campaign, kind of like The Last of Us: Left Behind? Or would...

What The Hell Has Final Fantasy VII Remake Done To Carbuncle

What The Hell Has Final Fantasy VII Remake Done To Carbuncle

Square Enix released a big batch of new Final Fantasy VII Remake screenshots today, including one of Carbuncle, who is usually one of the Final Fantasy series’ cutest summons. It now looks like an alien from a 1950s science fiction B-movie.

Is it a fox or a dog? Why is its head so big? Why is it smiling like it doesn’t have a giant gemstone lodged in its forehead? I get that Final Fantasy VII...
