Ghost Recon Breakpoint's Long-Awaited Overhaul Has Been Delayed At The Last Minute

Ghost Recon Breakpoint's Long-Awaited Overhaul Has Been Delayed At The Last Minute

Ghost Recon Breakpoint players just can’t catch a break.

The game was supposed to get a massive “immersive mode” overhaul this month addressing a number of issues players have had with Breakpoint since it launched last fall. Now, just days before the end of February, Ubisoft has announced that the update won’t arrive until sometime in the spring.

“The complexity of integrating this new mode...

My Failed Quest For A Terminator Truck Is Modern Gaming In A Nutshell

My Failed Quest For A Terminator Truck Is Modern Gaming In A Nutshell
Kotaku Game DiaryKotaku Game DiaryDaily thoughts from a Kotaku staffer about a game we're playing.

I was wrong about the Terminator truck that recently popped up as a reward in Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

The RT-5 Shepherd Mk. II was the ultimate reward for grinding through a batch of Terminator missions that were added to the big Ubisoft game a couple of weeks ago. Most of those missions, and the...

The Terminator Event In Ghost Recon Breakpoint Is Good

The Terminator Event In Ghost Recon Breakpoint Is Good

As many problems as Ghost Recon Breakpoint still has, it now also has Terminators. They’re actually a good addition to the game and part of a special live event week that kicked off on Wednesday and sort of ends on Thursday of next week.

The event is fun, especially if you like the idea of Terminators suddenly, seemingly randomly invading the unrelated game you’re playing.

Load Breakpoint up...

Major Ghost Recon Breakpoint Update Isn't Enough To Fix The Game

Major Ghost Recon Breakpoint Update Isn't Enough To Fix The Game

Today, Ghost Recon Breakpoint got its biggest update since launch. Besides the two new faction missions, there are a host of tweaks, some big, some small, touching on almost every aspect of the game. They might not turn Breakpoint into a game you need to play, but they are slowly turning it into the sort of Ghost Recon experience players have come to expect coming off two and a half years of...

Ubisoft Admits Ghost Recon Breakpoint Has Been A Disaster

Ubisoft Admits Ghost Recon Breakpoint Has Been A Disaster

During an earnings call Thursday, Ubisoft gave investors a brutally frank appraisal of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, its latest release and vowed to implement “significant changes to our production processes” to fix the game.

In a prepared statement you can read online, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot laid out the reasons the publisher believes the open-world special ops shooter didn’t sell as well as...

Ghost Recon Breakpoint Is An Infuriating Mess

Ghost Recon Breakpoint Is An Infuriating Mess

I have never played a game as inconsistent as Ghost Recon Breakpoint. In its finest moments, when the stars align, it delivers stealth action on par with the best in the genre. When it falls apart, as it usually does, a tangled weave of glitches and half-baked systems reveal a game compromised by bland AAA design sensibilities and a ceaseless desire to churn out content at a breakneck pace.

Every Bald Eagle Tattoo From Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Ranked

Every Bald Eagle Tattoo From Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Ranked

I’m here to talk about something odd I discovered in the recently released Ghost Recon Breakpoint. For some reason, players have access to not one, not two, not four, but five different tattoos featuring a Bald eagle and American imagery.

The new Ghost Recon game launched earlier this week. I jumped into the game and messed around with it for a few hours. It seems fine. If you want more...

Here’s How Ghost Recon Breakpoint Works

Here’s How Ghost Recon Breakpoint Works

I’ve only played about five hours of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, but I’m having a fun time crawling through the fictional island of Auroa’s mud, strategically clearing bases full of soldiers and drones, and even hopping into a little competitive multiplayer. My colleague Heather and I got together to break down how this game works and talk about what we like and dislike so far.

In the video above,...

You Can Fight Ghost Recon Breakpoint's Main Villain Right Away, If You're Foolish Enough

You Can Fight Ghost Recon Breakpoint's Main Villain Right Away, If You're Foolish Enough

I’ll be blunt: Playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been a drag. My initial ambivalence has given way to outright frustration as I trudge through generic military gameplay and the tangled web of pointless microtransactions. But Breakpoint has a twist that also offers a unique challenge. If you want, you can search and find the location of the enemy commander and try to take him out right from...

Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s Microtransactions Explained

Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s Microtransactions Explained

Ghost Recon Breakpoint is in early access before its full launch on Friday. It offers a somewhat generic but capable military shooter to hardcore fans. Looming over everything has been the specter of microtransactions. The game offers lots of them. So far, we’ve seen that you can easily ignore them.

First thing first: none of Breakpoint’s microtransactions are required for a comfortable...

Five Hours With Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Five Hours With Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Ghost Recon Breakpoint is here, or is it hiding in that bush over there? Whatever the case, Ubisoft’s latest addition to the Tom Clancy video game canon is here with plenty of loot to find and bases to assault. Breakpoint brings a lot of improvements over 2017’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. Cool character creation, tons of weapon customization, an actual villain. But it’s also rough in other areas,...

The Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Beta Is A Debate On What A Ghost Recon Needs To Be

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, the follow-up to 2017’s popular and controversial

Ghost Recon: Wildlands , kicked off its closed beta weekend yesterday, letting players who pre-ordered the game take on two early story missions and a host of side missions that ostensibly will give players a clearer picture of what to expect when the game launches October 4. Almost immediately, players have been...

The New Mode In Ghost Recon Wildlands Is A Small-Scale Spin On The Battle Royale Formula

The New Mode In Ghost Recon Wildlands Is A Small-Scale Spin On The Battle Royale Formula

Ghost Recon Wildlands is getting a sequel later this year, so most fans and Ubisoft will move on to that next game. But before that happens, Ubisoft has released one last major update for the game which added a brand new competitive mode called Mercenaries. It blends different elements of Wildlands into a small, focused battle royale-like mode that mostly works.

I haven’t played Wildlands in...

E3 2019It's time for the biggest gaming show of the year. We've got articles, videos, podcasts and maybe even a GIF or two.

Tim Rogers checked out the Ubisoft booth at E3, and shenanigans ensued. Watch the video for a look at Watch Dogs: Legion, a very intense staring contest, and the one question that has surely been on everyone’s minds: What, exactly, is a Ghost Recon Breakpoint?

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint's Survival Elements Keep The Game Tense
E3 2019It's time for the biggest gaming show of the year. We've got articles, videos, podcasts and maybe even a GIF or two.

I was playing Ghost Recon: Breakpoint as the assault class, Fixit. I had been doing my best to act as a tank for my teammates by getting out front and shooting people with my assault rifle. But my injuries started to add up: First I got nicked in the arm, then the leg....

Ghost Recon Bungled Bolivia, So At Least They're Going Somewhere Fictional This Time

Ghost Recon Bungled Bolivia, So At Least They're Going Somewhere Fictional This Time

The first thing you might notice about Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, the newly-announced follow-up to 2017’s co-op special ops shooter Ghost Recon: Wildlands, is its setting. The fictional Auroa islands are a marked shift from the previous game’s take on the real-world South American nation of Bolivia. Dig a little deeper, and you’ll find more change: Instead of a cartel fronted by a charismatic...

Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, A Sequel to Wildlands

Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, A Sequel to Wildlands

Ubisoft announced Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, the sequel to 2017's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, during a livestream reveal event today.. Here’s everything we know:

The title is meant to refer to the game’s central theme of desperation, not, sadly, the Keanu Reeves film Point Break. The new setting is the Auroa islands, a private compound owned by Jace Skell—the CEO of Skell Technology, which...

Ghost Recon Wildlands Is Getting Even More DLC And A Free Weekend

Ubisoft’s love for microtransactions and map defogging missions may be tiresome, but the company’s propensity to support its games for a long time continues to impress. The mega-publisher just announced that Ghost Recon Wildlands, fresh off two years of post-release content additions (and two years of season passes, naturally), is now getting more free missions in year three.

Ubisoft announced...

My Journey To Find Sam Fisher In Ghost Recon: Wildlands

My Journey To Find Sam Fisher In Ghost Recon: Wildlands

You know which game has a huge map? Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Last week my boss Stephen says to me, he says, “Hey, Kirk, did you see that they’re adding a Splinter Cell crossover mission to Ghost Recon: Wildlands?” And I’m like, yes Stephen, I saw that. So then we talked for a little bit about whether or not that was actually Michael Ironside playing famed Splinter Cell protagonist Sam Fisher in...
