The President Of Toyota's Letter To His Dakar Team Shows How Serious He Is About His Car-Nut Alter-Ego

The President Of Toyota's Letter To His Dakar Team Shows How Serious He Is About His Car-Nut Alter-Ego

The first Dakar rally to be held in Saudi Arabia ended on Friday, and while Gazoo driver and F1 legend Fernando Alonso didn’t quite crack the top ten in his class, Toyota’s factory efforts largely killed it. Nasser Attiyeh and Matthieu Baumel were second-place finishers in their Hilux and the rest of the competitors driving for Toyota largely crushed it as well. Unsurprisingly, their efforts...

Something that was not mentioned this morning in the post announcing American Ricky Brabec as the first American to win a Dakar class, ever, in history, was that he rode a Honda to make it happen. For those not familiar with Dakar dynasties, Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM had won the previous 18 years in a row. There are whole...

The Salute At The End

The Salute At The End

The Dakar Rally is on in Saudi Arabia , and is, as it is every year, an absolute test of the human will through some of the most extreme, barren, and beautiful land on Earth. These testing areas produce very human moments. Take a look at, for instance, the salute at the end of this video.

As you can see, the little buggy noses in over the edge of a dune, endos, and keeps going as if nothing...

Of course, this is a year of many firsts for Dakar, chief among them the new venue. For the first time, the Dakar Rally is being held in...

Honda Is On Track To Win Dakar For The First Time In 30 Years

KTM’s first Dakar win was in 2001 and the manufacturer has come in first place every time since. At the halfway point of the 2020 event, it’s looking like Honda may have a shot at dethroning the Austrians.

Honda rider Ricky Brabec leads the bikes with a gap of just under 21 minutes ahead of Husqvarna rider Pablo Quintanilla. KTM rider Toby Price is in third, 25 minutes and 39 seconds back...

Fernando Alonso has had one hell of a career with some serious highs and quite a few lows. One of those lows was found in his second stint at McLaren with failures seemingly coming every day. It’s likely a part of his life that he’d like to forget all about. He occasionally races for Toyota now, including this week at the Dakar Rally,...

This Is Why Mitsubishi Deserves a Better Off-Road Reputation

This Is Why Mitsubishi Deserves a Better Off-Road Reputation
Truck YeahThe trucks are good!

The Mitsubishi Montero suffers from also-ran syndrome in the United States; it doesn’t enjoy the level of nostalgic love people have for the Ford Bronco or Toyota Land Cruiser. But Mitsubishi’s SUV basically dominated the Dakar Rally, arguably the toughest event in off-road racing, longer than anyone. Mitsubishi apparently still has some of its early champ...

The Dakar Rally May Be Headed To Saudi Arabia: Report

The Dakar Rally May Be Headed To Saudi Arabia: Report

The Dakar Rally has been held in South America for a decade now, following unrest in some African nations. To many competitors, that’s the right place for it to stay, but because of some interesting international issues, the rally was forced to stay within the bounds of Peru for the 2019 running. Not only does this make a long-distance desert race like this difficult to orchestrate, but South...
