Gotta say

This photo sums me up more than I may be comfortable with.

Kilt, knee socks, combat boots, buzz cut with pony tail, insufficiently shaved, battered old car with primer spots because I am mid-repairs, trailer with custom welded kayak rack, and a stranger’s canoe on the roof because they needed a lift.

Unobtainium wagon part. Unobtainium wagon part.

The proportioning valve is bad, and the wagon/police/tow one for 11" rear drums does not exist new or rebuilt at any price. Looks like the “easiest” solution is to use a later master cylinder and replumb all the brakes.

I done screwed up I done screwed up

Somehow managed to leave Aubergine in neutral with the e-brake off, and it apparently very... slowly... rolled down the driveway into the fence. Managed to tear the sidewall, pull the front bumper off, put a crease in the fender, and scratch the bumper, fender, rocker, and mirror all to hell. I put the bumper back on, have the spare...

Houselopnik, a fast goodbye Houselopnik, a fast goodbye

I just signed a purchase agreement with an investor to buy my old house. His offer was within $5k of what my agent has estimated i’d clear after fees/etc. at what he felt it would sell for in the area. Given it was going to take at least that much and a couple months to have it ready to sell,...

Houselopnik, SUCESS! Houselopnik, SUCESS!

My partner and I finally found a decent house and closed on it. I’m happy with the house, but i am in love with the massive (for the area) garage. My 18+ft wagon fits with plenty of room to spare. We have a lot of fiddly work needed before move-in, so every evening and weekend is being poured into...

Sir! A smaller vessel has rammed us! Sir! A smaller vessel has rammed us!

Project Colony Ship was rear-ended this morning. The bumper is shoved in pretty far and is slightly bent. I’m hoping it is just bumper bracket damage and not frame damage. Either way I did not need another thing to deal with at the moment.

Thanksgiving drive Thanksgiving drive

Project Colony Ship handled the haul up to Boston and back for thanksgiving at a friend’s place with no issues. Even the 15 degree weather on the drive home didn’t phase it. I need to replace the moisture barrier in the driver’s door though, as i had a lot of cold air coming through the door panel.

Patching the hull Patching the hull

I am working on rust repair on Project Colony Ship, however it is being slowed by my house painting project and a lot of rain. I did make a version 2 left quarter patch panel and got that, the main inner panel, and one end cap piece welded in last night. The inner welding isn’t pretty as the angles all...

It has begun... It has begun...

Started on the rot repair on the wagon, decided to tackle the worst panel first. 1 / 5I copied the more intact passenger quarter onto some paper, transferred that to some 3/4" plywood, cut two out, and used those to hammerform a new patch panel. Then I hacked off the old “repair” and bondo, and trimmed it up to...

Not quite the sky falling, but too close. Not quite the sky falling, but too close.

This has not been a great week. I was home today recovering from having a tooth extracted yesterday. Took the wagon to the junkyard as the Fit’s axle is broken. While out a bolt fell off a truck in front of me and hit the wagon, smashing the brand new windshield and chipping the paint. I was able to...

Ford stereo wiring help Ford stereo wiring help

In my continuing quest to find a working radio for Project Colony Ship, i picked up an 89 lincoln radio, but it turn out the speaker connector is different. Turns out the lincoln had an amp (missing from the junkyard one i got the radio from). On wiring diagrams the outputs are labeled as speaker signals rather than just as...

Project Colony Ship, Getting Hitched Project Colony Ship, Getting Hitched

Finally had a nice day, and got the hitch installed on Project Colony Ship. The front bolt holes didn’t line up at all, so I had to cut a slot where the bolt hole was, then weld in a reinforcement across the end of the slot. My awesome partner actually did the welding on that. She also welded the bolts...

Dumb snow fun Dumb snow fun

Tried to pull Project Colony Ship off its cement pad into the driveway without clearing the foot of old snow in the way first. Got this far. The second the rear wheels left the dry spot that was under the car and hit snowbank, all forward momentum ceased. It’s completely beached and will have to stay here until more melting...

Ford 5.0 Engine swap ponderings/questions Ford 5.0 Engine swap ponderings/questions

Having just gotten it running again, I’m thinking of getting rid of the early 5.0 with its crude EFI in Project Colony Ship (my ‘87 Mercury Colony Park Wagon), and replacing it with something better (read: OBD2, and better parts availability). My first thought was, of course, LS. But that had the potential for a lot of fabrication, and would...
