The First Two Pontiac Firebirds Ever Built Are Listed on Ebay Right Now for $285,000

If you’re a huge Pontiac Firebird fan, and you have beaucoup bucks, then you might consider buying these: Pontiac Firebird VIN #001 and #002. The 1967 muscle cars are for sale on eBay right now for only a quarter million dollars plus roughly a new base V8 Camaro.

That’s the Buy It Now price; bids as of 6 P.M. on May 11 are up to $185,000, though that’s below the reserve. So if you want these two, you’ll have to shell out. And you can’t just buy one individually, as the cars are being sold as a pair, with the listing saying the vehicles have been together essentially since GM sold them over 50 years ago.

The first one is a red convertible with a 326 cubic-inch V8 mated to a three-speed automatic. It’s got power brakes and steering, as well as cruise control and a floor-mounted clock, the listing says.

As for VIN #002, it’s a silver four-speed manual coupe with a 326 high output motor, power brakes, power steering, a tilt column, and a hood-mounted tachometer.

You may recognize these cars from the show Fast N’ Loud, which follows the builds of a Dallas, Texas-based shop called Gas Monkey Garage. That team discovered the two cars in rather sad shape back in 2014, but restored them to apparent perfection. The cars were up for auction at Barrett-Jackson in 2016, but the reserve wasn’t met.

So if you missed out then, now’s your chance.

Clarification May 11, 2019 6:50 P.M. ET: These are listed as the first two production Firebirds. There were undoubtedly some preproduction models built earlier.

The 2020 Corvette C8 is here, and by now you’ve probably seen exterior and interior photos, and read about all the performance figures . That’s great, but what you really want is to learn about the hardware, so here’s what I got from an interview with a Corvette engineer and through sifting through GM’s technical literature. The Corvette is getting...

Jalopnik ReviewsAll of our test drives in one convenient place.  Last month, I drove the 2020 Alpina B7 –a 600-horsepower evolution of the BMW 7 Series made by one of the company’s most prominent tuners–near its headquarters just outside of Munich. We stretched its legs on the Autobahn and frankly, I’ve never felt like more of a baller.(Full Disclosure: BMW...

Here's a First Look at the New C8 Corvette Convertible Here's a First Look at the New C8 Corvette Convertible

“We are just getting started with Corvette,” said GM President Mark Reuss at the 2020 Corvette’s reveal just before a video montage of apparently future Corvette variants began playing on the screen behind him. Among those variants was this: the Corvette Convertible. At least, that’s what it appears to be based on the roof design, which shows two head...

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette has a lot going for it between the mid-engine configuration, the 495 horsepower V8, the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and, of course, the price . But one feature worth talking about is the hydraulically-actuated front suspension lift.We don’t know a ton about this feature, but what we do know is that the front suspension—a short/long arm...

Part of me knows I shouldn’t be shocked that someone paid $61,000 for a 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo S today, but I feel like I can’t be the only one who became acquainted with these cars when they all seemed to be dilapidated cast-offs. And this feels like as good an excuse as any to shake our fists at...

Remember the Fallen as Today Marks 10 Years Since the Death of Pontiac Remember the Fallen as Today Marks 10 Years Since the Death of Pontiac

2009 was a hard year for General Motors with the shuttering of Saab, Hummer, and Saturn following the economic crash of 2008 and the subsequent bailout, bankruptcy, and restructuring of the company. Today, however, marks the anniversary of the biggest loss of the 2009 General rebuild. Pontiac, after 93 years being a fixture in the Michigan automotive landscape, was...

As someone who’s been working at this glorious website for the better part of this decade now, I don’t often run into total surprises anymore—especially overpowered American ones from the Radwood era. You can be forgiven for not knowing what the Pontiac Tojan is. I didn’t either, until this Carfection video dropped yesterday. But it is a truly bananas...

Someone Put a GMC Sonoma Body Onto a Dodge Power Wagon Frame Someone Put a GMC Sonoma Body Onto a Dodge Power Wagon Frame

The GMC Sonoma is a small truck with about as much soul as a stick of margarine, so why someone would use its body to adorn a beefy Dodge Power Wagon frame is just beyond me. But this build is so random that I’ve decided that I like it. We at Jalopnik quite often come across strange builds involving...

It’s a fundamental fact of life that with the appropriate amount of extra cash on hand, the only logical thing to do is go out and buy a hardcore professional race car—whether the plan is to make that race car street legal, take it to the track, or simply display it as rolling shell in the entryway of your...

When a reader named Dan emailed me in February asking for help getting his late father’s prized small block Chevy-swapped Pontiac Fiero back up and running, I could tell the vehicle meant a lot to Dan. So gladly, I headed over to his house and got to wrenching. Now, a few months later, Dan gave me a ride in...

This Is Allegedly The Last Saab Ever Built This Is Allegedly The Last Saab Ever Built

Saab might have been building its best cars when it was forced out of business. The last generation 9-5 was an amazing car, but more importantly it was an amazing Saab.
