What's Coming and Going From Netflix the Week of April 29, 2019

It’s May, and your cup runneth over—if not in all areas of your life, then at least the most important one: the area in which you recline on your sectional, eating Pop Corners while alternately watching TV and playing on your phone (some call this area the “living room”; I prefer “salon” or “parlour”). We’ve got Knock Down the House (Wednesday), a doc about AOC’s 2018 congressional campaign. (Will she win? I won’t spoil it for you!) Or, if you prefer lighter fare, 1983's Mr. Mom stars a pre-Birdman and essentially pre-pubescent Michael Keaton as a stay-at-home father who can’t operate a washing machine while his wife Teri Garr drinks a cocktail, talks on a phone, and does other things only men do.

No? OK, then surely you’ll be into Tuca & Bertie, a new animated series created by Bojack Horseman cartoonist Lisa Hanawalt, in which Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong voice 30-something birds who live in the same apartment building. I know! Sometimes, Netflix really does seem to have your number.

Jerry Seinfeld is back behind the wheel of a lot of fancy cars (and it looks like one moped?) as the next installment of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee drops on Friday. Bridget Everett, Eddie Murphy, Matthew Broderick, Jamie Foxx and Seth Rogen are all part of the innocuous, low-commitment froth this time around. If you prefer something with...

The end of year offerings from Netflix were grim, so it is with pleasure that I welcome the bumper crop of entertainment in this week’s harvest. We’ve got the full complement of Indiana Jones flicks arriving on Tuesday (I see we are now calling the first installment “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark,” which I guess...

Let’s cut the crap and stop pretending there’s anything you want to watch this week besides The Great British Baking Show: Collection 6 (better known as Series 9 in the UK). It’s the most soothing show that ever there was and we all know it.Too sticky sweet? Then perhaps you’ll enjoy Westside,  a new “unscripted Netflix series” (read: “reality...

You know how the exact moment Thanksgiving is over you find yourself wandering the aisles of CVS while “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” blasts over the PA and you’re filled with overwhelming dread, another year come and gone and what have you done with your life? Of course you do. Well, this year is different. This year, you are...

Let’s start of the week with a confession: I never bothered seeing Inglourious Basterds, and I’ve been quietly irritated by the spelling of the title since it first came out in 2009. I assume it’s a reference to something within the movie, but who’s to say? Not me! Maybe this month I’ll finally find out. Quentin Tarantino’s Nazi-killing period...

This Chrome Extension Makes Netflix Look Like a Conference Call This Chrome Extension Makes Netflix Look Like a Conference Call

Sometimes you want to watch Netflix, but need that watching to be on the discrete side. Or instance, maybe it would help if your computer’s screen looked like you were on a conference call talking to people in another office rather than watch The Office.Netflix Hangouts is a Chrome extension that does just that.Once installed, the extension loads up...

Watch the Best Episodes of a TV Series With ShowSkimmer Watch the Best Episodes of a TV Series With ShowSkimmer

The site ShowSkimmer is a new tool for finding the best episodes of a TV show. Search for a series, and ShowSkimmer will list the best 5, 10, 25, or 50 episodes, in chronological order. It’s a great way to watch a series while skipping all the forgettable episodes—which is especially good for long-running sitcoms with light plots and...

What Your Kid Can Learn From BBC’s 'Sarah & Duck' What Your Kid Can Learn From BBC’s 'Sarah & Duck'

In the British cartoon Sarah & Duck, Sarah is a girl who lives with her best friend, a mallard named Duck. Their home is devoid of adults except the omnipresent narrator/possible dad. Each short episode follows the pair through both mundane activities (like making a cake) and fantastical scenarios (like the cake batter coming to life to coach them...

Learning a new language is hard. After eight years of French, I was an abysmal failure at the language until I spent a month in the country using it regularly. There’s something about seeing words and phrases used in context that makes them a lot easier to understand than just reading them in a textbook.Lingvo is an app that...

Bad weather around the corner? You may have to endure a rainy day without electronic distractions—that is, if you still want your television to turn on the following day.Today, CNET brought up the one question many of us asked ourselves during a thunderstorm: Should I unplug my PS4, Xbox, and other electronics or risk frying them all to death...

Since this is the last Lifehacker tech-advice column before that big gift-giving day next week, it’s only fitting that this week’s question comes from a reader who needs a little help picking up a present for himself. Multiple presents, actually—and he doesn’t want any companies to spy on him after he’s set them up.The questionLifehacker reader Robert writes:I want...
