The New Haas F1 Team Livery Looks Familiar

Bradley.Brownell Feb 08, 2019. 16 comments

Haas is back with a brand new look. With new backing from Rich Energy, the American-ish team has a fighting chance at owning the best livery of the season already, and this is the first 2019-spec racer to make its public display. It’s a good thing no Formula One team has ever used a black and gold livery in the past, or it might just be a cheap reproduction of something already deemed iconic.

The new VF-19 chassis will again be powered by a Ferrari engine, and the team retains both drivers, Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen, for the third year running. It’s fair to say the team is satisfied with its setup, and will make evolutionary changes rather than revolutionary ones in an effort to climb the F1 teams championship standings. The team quietly finished fifth in the championship points for the 2018 season, marking them the best of the rest after factory Ferrari, Mercedes, and Renault efforts, and big-budget Red Bull.

Yeah, your eyes don’t deceive you, the new Haas livery is a play on the old John Players Special livery that has been kicking around the F1 grid since the 1970s. Most recently, the Lotus F1 team ran in these colors (also with Romain Grosjean at the wheel) back in 2015, before the team was purchased by Renault.

The team is excited and frankly, so am I. The first race of the season is a little over a month away, and with new aero regulations and Red Bull moving to Honda power, it could be another step up the rung for Haas this year.

It’s a rare treat to see young rally star Oliver Solberg gas hopping and hittin’ switches in his Subaru WRX STI Lowrider. He may not be a true OG, but what he lacks in style he makes up for in effort.

Every Alfa Romeo TZ Has A Story Every Alfa Romeo TZ Has A Story

Only just over 100 Alfa Romeo Tubolare Zagato were built, many of them were raced, and every single one of them has a story. This one might have a more interesting story than most, however, as it earned an SCCA regional championship with driver Nadine Brengle before it was wrecked and rebuilt. It was recently returned to its former...

You may know Ken Block from such films as Gymkhana 10 , or Climbkhana . The latter of the two was a wild sideways-and-smokey run up Pikes Peak with cinematography help from the legendary Jeff Zwart. Pikes Peak is dangerous when you aren’t drifting and showboating for the camera, which made that one perhaps Block’s most exciting film. In...

Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil did, in fact, have a brief stint as a part-time race...

Formula One Plans To Go Carbon Neutral Formula One Plans To Go Carbon Neutral

The world of motorsport was stunned when Mazda inked a deal in mid-2017 with long-time Audi prototype championship-winning backers Joest to help turn around its RT24-P efforts in IMSA . Things had not gone particularly well prior to the revamp, which saw major changes to the car, the engine, and the driver lineup. It all came good, however, when...

What’s the first, most obvious, and most sensible thing to do when handed a budget that’s going to go into effect in the near future? If you answered “throw egregious amounts of money into a giant pile and light it on fire just for the hell of it,” then you might just be a Formula One team staring down...

Plenty of people have been thoroughly annoyed by some of the latest Formula One graphics that have been popping up mid-race. Do we really need all this excess information about the probability of overtaking and tire performance? Do we really? But for as pointless as some of these new inclusions seem, they are at least better than the absolutely...
