Will Smith sure is looking blue in the new Aladdin teaser

Sam Barsanti Feb 11, 2019. 24 comments

The first teaser for Disney’s live-action Aladdin checked all of the boxes it needed to: It featured hints of the iconic music from the animated original, its one line of dialogue was directly lifted from an important scene in the original, and it featured a quick reveal of Aladdin himself reaching for the magic lamp. Hell, there was even a parrot, though it didn’t get a chance to say anything.

For the latest teaser, though, Disney made sure to include an appearance from Will Smith’s Genie, since that’s the one thing everybody’s especially curious about with Guy Ritche’s new take on the story. And, well, he looks a lot like Will Smith, but he’s blue. Actually, that doesn’t really capture how weird it is, but words can’t really capture how weird it is anyway.

Aladdin stars Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and (of course) Will Smith. It’ll be in theaters on May 24.

The ever-hopeful Ezra Miller still claims his Flash movie is going to happen The ever-hopeful Ezra Miller still claims his Flash movie is going to happen

It’s been a long and winding road for the Flash movie, which—for various reasons—has proven to be significantly harder to get off the ground than a freakin’ Aquaman movie. Multiple writers and directors have signed on and then dropped out, including presumed star Ezra Miller (who played the Scarlet Speedster in Justice League) and famous comic writer Grant Morrison,...

Lifetime drops a breathless trailer for its movie about the NXIVM sex cult Lifetime drops a breathless trailer for its movie about the NXIVM sex cult

NXIVM, the bizarre “sex cult” that counted Smallville actress Allison Mack in its ranks, is too weird a story to not get dissected to death. HBO, for example, has a documentary on the way , while Lifetime, as one might expect, wasted little time in putting together its own sensational depiction. Today, the network released a trailer for its...
