Job Search Help--WTF Do I Do Now?

JustSmileandNod Mar 11, 2018. 15 comments

So I jumped ship from teaching and am close to finishing my MBA with a concentration in marketing...and I’m scared shitless as to what I’m going to do next.

I will have to start job hunting soon, but I’m not sure how to leverage my teaching experience in ways that make sense for marketing. I need to update my resume and take all my background and run it through a marketing filter. How the hell do I do that????

Anyone with marketing experience/background have any tips for how I should go about making my resume relevant for my new field? Tips in general?

It's the little things It's the little things

Having just moved into a new apartment, I’ve been browsing Apartment Therapy a lot and all of the awesome projects got me thinking how neat it would be to have a power drill to do things with. Since I was having a Monday at work, I wandered over to Amazon and clicked on a few things and what do I...

Are Professional Certificates Worth It? Are Professional Certificates Worth It?

My current company will pay for further education 100% as long as it is relevant to your job, you earn a certain grade, and that you stay at the company for a proportional amount of time afterwards.I don’t think I want to jump into the time commitment that is a Masters program right away, but I have seen some professional...

New job offer and negotiating New job offer and negotiating

This post isn’t to ask for advice but just to say that I got a job offer from a much larger company! I would be doing similar work as I do now but be paid ~$15k more per year. They sent me a starting offer and I think they low-balled me a bit (full disclosure: I have a former colleague...

Work Advice Request Work Advice Request

I work closely with a colleague who has anxiety and takes medication for it. Occasionally, the med affects her in a, “she seems tired” kind of way. I’m kind of an anxious person myself but not requiring a doctor’s supervision so I sort of relate but also don’t have a full grasp on what she has to deal with. We...

I’m taking a mental health day today and I’m posting this to ensure a. that I actually do it (although I’d have to leave now to get there on time and I’m not even wearing clean underwear yet), and b. work through the guilt so I stop feeling bad about it. Which I shouldn’t. Because I need it.Why do I...

Job Interview Tomorrow Job Interview Tomorrow

And I’m so nervous! I teach, and this is one of the few interviews I’ve ever had where I’ve had to go in and teach an actual lesson to a room full of high schoolers who are not my own. I may vomit.

This is work. This is work.

Earlier today I had a (totally civil) convo on Gizmodo where someone said that a person referring to themself anonymously as “The Chancellor” was too silly for real business, I disagreed.I present, a real work communication I just participated in moments ago.
