Anyone have 3D printing knowhow?

I am considering printing some stuff that is hard to find. I saw Leno was making stuff with a company called Stratasys who scans and prints things. They haven’t gotten back to me yet. The light covers on the Japanese market Zs were these with a chrome ring. They sometimes go for $1000 a set without the mounting hardware. I know people on the Z forums that have sets that could be scanned. I just don’t know how hard it will be to print the metal ring, then that metal would have to be chromed I assume. I also don’t know if they can print a clear cover like that. Any ideas?

So... So...

I just watched the Martin Short episode of CICGC and he has a Euro 300TD. It was funny but he introduces the car as a 6cyl... it’s a 5?? Jerry what happened? As far as I know the 6 didn’t come until the next generation of diesels in the boxy cars. That’s all I came here to say, gripe over....

The Future Today! The Future Today!

My senior minion and I put together the 3D printer I picked up a couple of months ago. It’s an Ender 3 and gets pretty good reviews. It works, but I need to work on leveling the bed, calibrating and figuring out how to use it. I already have some automotive related projects in mind. First project will be...

GUYS! 3D Printed bikes are a thing. Sort of. Oops.  GUYS! 3D Printed bikes are a thing. Sort of. Oops.

Engineering students at Carleton University have shown that science is a process in a very public way. Two second-year students built a 3D bike (with the exception of the wheels, the drivetrain, and the seat), and invited the media to a demonstration. Which lasted about... 1/4 of a second. A rod in the headset appeared to have snapped, ending the...

Small child playing with Tonkas for your time.I know we have some 3D printer users here. I’ve got a couple Makerbot Replicator 2 printers at school that have been OK, but I’m not thrilled with and certainly don’t want to give them any more money. Speaking of money my district has some of it to equip our three middle...

"Mool-ti-pass!" "Mool-ti-pass!"

We recently did away with our mag stripe ID cards at work, upgrading to RFID readers. As a result, we all got new cards. I found this on Shapeways a while back, and knew the time was right! If you don’t recognize the Multi Pass, it’s a bit of futuretech from Luc Besson’s 1997 scifi epic The Fifth Element....

Blinker Fluid / Check out my shop! Blinker Fluid / Check out my shop!

Hey ya’ll.A good friend of mine that’s a 3D modeler, MR2 enthusiast, and all around gear head and myself have opened up our own little “shop” on Shapeways. This is out soft launch, as there’s one product (things take time), but we’ve got one REALLY awesome product that we’re INCREDIBLY excited coming out very very soon. In the meantime, check...

Will 3D printing change the auto industry? Will 3D printing change the auto industry?

The automotive industry is changing rapidly. There are more than a than a quarter million electric cars on American roads, some of which have a range over 200 miles in between charges. It is legal to operate driverless cars in five states and at least 7 automakers will launch driverless cars by 2020. Will 3D printing, the Star Trek-esque...

BIG IDEA: 3D-Printing Hot Wheels Orange Track Based On Real Corners of Real Tracks BIG IDEA: 3D-Printing Hot Wheels Orange Track Based On Real Corners of Real Tracks

Ever had Hot Wheels’ orange track and thought: “This is neat, but I can’t seem to come up with more corners”? Me too. Then an idea struck me: with current 3D printing methods and videogame assets, it is possible to come up with track that is shaped exactly like the Eau Rouge complex, the Corkscrew, and 130R.I got the...
