Torii Hunter Jr. Helped Off Field After Being Blasted In The Head [Update]

Timothy Burke Mar 29, 2018. 18 comments

Torii Hunter Jr. headed to the locker room after being crushed by Texas defensive back DeShon Elliott on a play that left nearly every viewer wondering why officials didn’t throw a targeting flag.

NCAA rules now allow replay officials to retroactively assess the targeting call, and those officials had nearly three minutes to look at the play while Hunter struggled to reach his feet. Apparently, the crew determined this to be a completely safe and legal play. Football is fucked, and maybe it should be!

Why Is The NBA Replay Center Watching Animal House? Why Is The NBA Replay Center Watching Animal House?

Reader Chris caught this odd moment during today’s Sixers-Timberwolves matchup, as late in the game a play demanded review from the NBA’s replay center in Secaucus. The live camera shot from inside that center showed, strangely, the movie Animal House showing on several of the screens. We can’t find Animal House on any TV schedule tonight, nor does it appear to...

Pirates Execute Rare 4-5-4 Triple Play Pirates Execute Rare 4-5-4 Triple Play

The Pittsburgh Pirates tripled up the Cardinals tonight on a 4-5-4 triple play that, if we’re reading SABR’s list of triple plays correctly, is the first in baseball history. Maybe claiming the Pirates “executed a triple play,” isn’t fair or accurate, perhaps “Cardinals fail to execute competent baserunning” would be better.[Root]Open kinja-labs.comTo contact the author of this post, write to...

It’s that time of year where reporters and other media members get to ask questions to college football coaches that often lead to these meathead leaders of the gridiron showing their ass on topics they’re clearly not too well-versed on. The most recent edition of this annual tradition features University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh tackling the subject of...

Previously-undefeated fighter Maxim Dadashev was taken to a hospital for brain surgery on Friday following his 11th-round loss to Subriel Matias, and the frightening scenes that served as evidence for just how much damage the boxer had endured. Alabama football coach Nick Saban thinks “the spirit” of college football’s transfer portal “in and of itself is a positive thing for players.” But let’s not get carried away: Lest anyone think he’s completely on board with the idea of players having the sort of agency that, say, coaches do, Saban thinks there has to be limits. Here’s more of...

Jared Stillman hosts a sports radio show on ESPN’s Nashville affiliate. He also, judging by a tweet he sent out during Monday night’s national championship game between Clemson and Alabama, appears to be a bit of a dingdong. Let’s set aside the, uh, undertones of that tweet for a moment and allow Rovell Jr. over here to explain exactly...

The #7 Alabama Crimson Tide host #4 LSU today. It should be a good game, and like any rivalry game, it’s had its fair share of fan pranks, celebrity (kinda) appearances (almost), and moments of staggering public idiocy from college students. Not a great look! You guys must have spent a lot of time spray painting that racist fart...

Johan Franzen's Brain Is Not Healthy Johan Franzen's Brain Is Not Healthy

This feels like a last go-round for this era of the Red Wings, but one of the last decade’s more familiar faces is missing: Johan Franzen, out since January with his latest concussion, almost surely out for the season no matter how deep Detroit goes, and very questionable to ever resume his hockey career. Only in the last few...
